Now that you have decided to ship your vehicle, you need to be sure you get it ready for shipping. Here are the things we find most important to do before sending off your car.
Remove any loose items.
While we understand the want to ship things in your car when you move to leave you more packing room, we highly suggest against doing this. One, having loose items in your car creates higher risk of things moving around too aggressively and causing issues to the interior of your car. Two, having too much in your car weighs it down too severely. Third, you do not want to ship too valuable or personal of items in your vehicle, as things of real importance you want to have accessible to you when moving.
Wash your car.
Yes, you read that correctly. Wash your car before you ship it. Then, thoroughly look at your car’s exterior. Make note of any damage existing on your car currently, from scuff marks to dents. Keep this log of any damage so that then, once your vehicle has arrived at its destination, you can take another thorough look at your vehicle to see if you notice any other marks. The reason we say to wash your car before this process is because a freshly washed car makes the lookover much easier.
Check gas levels.
You want to make sure your gas tank is about 1/8 – 1/4 of the tank full. This is the shipping gas tank sweet spot range. It does not involve too much gas that would increase the risk of a spill, and it does not weigh the vehicle down too much. With this said, it provides a nice cushion in case of emergencies.
