Tropical Storm Debby has worn down a bit while it has been on the move, but what is left of it continues its trek up north toward Massachusetts. The storm is expected to bring lots of rain and wind through the next day or so as the storm reaches the state before it is expected to die out. Commuters were hit with heavy rainfall this morning, with the rain bleeding into the morning from the heavy downpour that happened overnight. As the rest of the day goes on, the rain is expected to significantly lessen and bring in sunshine. However, there is still expected to be signs of the tropical storm in the state’s weather.

While experts predict a lull in the rain Wednesday evening, Tropical Storm Debby is expected to pick back up for a few more days.

Meteorologists are predicting heavy rain to resume Thursday when Debby moves through the Carolinas and Virginia. As it works up, it will lose steam, but still be a certified storm by the time Massachusetts sees the official storm, Debby. The storm is expected to officially reach the state by Thursday evening. Because of this, rain is expected to be on and off throughout Thursday and Friday.

The storm has unpredictably had a shift to the west, which shifted the storm from directly going over most of Massachusetts.

The shift in the direction of the storm means there will likely be less rain than originally expected, however, Massachusetts will still see plenty of rain, nonetheless. Experts are hesitant to say what the predicted rain levels will be exactly, given how unpredictable tropical storm Debby has been thus far, but they are hopeful that the rainfall will be in a sweet spot in which it will be heavy but not lead to risk of flooding. Furthermore, while earlier in the week they had thunderstorm warnings for Massachusetts and the other New England states, they no longer appear to be forecasted.

Tropical Storm Debby first touched down in Florida as a Category 1 hurricane. This happened on Monday, nearly a year to the day from when Florida was hit by the Category 3 hurricane Idalia. As they often do, the longer the storm treks on for, the weaker it will be.
